Stereotype
By: Andrew Kim
During the 19th century, women continued to have less rights than men and were viewed in such ways to do such things. Due to this reason especially during the World War, women were asked to work on factories to create weapons or basically anything behind-the-scenes. Therefore, there were a lot of stereotypical posters and a good example of one is the poster on the right. This poster is portraying a very bias thought towards the role of men during the war. The role of men were equally as hard as the role of women but in this poster it seems like being in the Navy is nothing hard compared to what the women are doing which is completely from just her opinion/thought. The context in this poster explains it such as “Gee!! I wish I were a man” of how one-sided her thought is towards gender roles. This thought is then considered by others making them feel that the idea is actually true and starts being tricked by this technique. The next time you look at a poster, be careful of stereotypical information that may trick you as well!
