Bandwagon
By: Harry Shin
The propaganda technique used in this piece of visual is bandwagon, which is to persuade other people to participate in the army because everyone else already did. As seen in the poster, there is a column of soldiers followed by a column of people from every walk of life, lawyers to farmers and even well dressed-up gentlemen. The purpose of this kind of technique is to show that everyone else already has a job in the army except “you”; therefore, “you” need to “Step Into Your Place” of the army. Bandwagon is using human’s instinctive behaviour to do what everyone else is doing and a desire of achieving what everyone else can achieve. By using a very simple poster like this, bold capital letters and just a bunch of people in a line, it can persuade people to either join the army or do what they can from their own spot, as nobody wants to miss out on what everyone else is doing. This poster also shows a meaning of, victory is for those who works together to fight against the enemy, which encourages other people to join in and fight together and feel the glory and pride after the war.
