Plain Folks

The propaganda technique plain folks is well used on this liberty bond poster of the World War 1. Liberty loan or bond was war bond that was sold in the United States to support the allied cause in World War I and this bond became a symbol of patriotic duty in the United States. The Victory Liberty loan was the fifth and final war bond put into action for the relief of World War I. The poster features an ordinary working man proudly digging into his pocket to give his money for another Liberty Loan. Adding on, the bolded words “Sure! We’ll Finish the Job,” is used to encourage the people to buy the bond that will literally finish the war. This poster uses plain folks to appeal to a very large group of people in the United States. Looking at the man, he is dressed in plain overalls, the poster is assumed to be directed to the working class, farmers, and anyone who does physical labor to buy the bonds. As a result, by using plain folks in the poster, it allows to appeal to a large range of people especially the working class people and encourages the people to buy the bonds.
